Dealing with Infatuation (Pt 1)

Dealing with Infatuation. 

Now, I'm no professional advice giver-er, but I have recently helped someone deal with a case of infatuation, and I really wanted to share my thoughts on the entire topic.

So, firstly - what is infatuation? 

Infatuation is when you THINK you are in love with someone and you become unhealthily obsessed with the person. It can turn really ugly. 

It can start of with an innocent crush, but will eventually develop into destructive obsession. I say destructive, because it can lead to self destruction. 

Your thoughts end up completely overtaken by the person, and you cannot really function without thinking about the other person.

What differs between love and infatuation?

Well, I believe that love is a marriage of trust, responsibility and a feeling that it's right, between both parties. 

Infatuation however, is built on lust and the inability to comprehend that there are no mutual feelings involved.

It is scary to deal with infatuation, especially when the person experiencing it mistakes it for love. I think what you need to realise is that, you cannot make someone love you. That will happen by itself, and if it does not - the person probably is not right for you. 

I like the saying 'If something is destined for you, never in a million years will it belong to someone else'. 

So, how do you deal with it?

I think you need to ease off the other party. Slowly, (because it will take time), try and occupy your mind with other things. For example, if you have a huge event or family wedding or something, try and think about that instead. Another way you can occupy your mind is by focusing on your own goals. So, by striving to achieve those goals, you will eventually have no time to really spend hours thinking about the other person.
