Review: Maybelline Baby Lips

If you're a YouTube-aholic, or an avid beauty blog reader - you'd know that these beauties have built themselves a pretty hardcore fan-base in the US and Canada (and everywhere else they were available). They weren't released in the UK until earlier on this month, and as soon as I saw them on the Boots website, I didn't hesitate to purchase them.

At the moment, on the Boots Website, they only have 6 colours; Hydrate, Intense Care and Mint Fresh are the colourless balms of the bunch and Cherry Me, Pink Punch and Peach Kiss are tinted. They had a 3 for 2 offer, so I purchased all three of the tinted balms.

Initially, I was not impressed. I thought they were simply 'meh' products. I even expressed my dissatisfaction to a few of my friends, and they were pretty bummed out as they were looking forward to the release of the Maybelline Baby Lips. Despite my dissatisfaction, I was immediately drawn to the scent of the lip balms. They smelled soooo good.

The following day, after my morning skin care routine, I wanted to wear a matte lipstick. That meant that I had to exfoliate my lips (they didn't feel dry nor look dry, but matte lipsticks usually accentuate the dryness, or draw out dryness to the surface). I used my Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub. Usually, following that I apply my Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream on to my lips, however, that day - I opted for the Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in Cherry Me. I immediately fell in love! It left a gorgeous pinky-red tint on my lips, and was super moisturising. I decided to go with that! Now it's in my handbag, and whenever I need a makeup-pick-me-up, I just reapply this.

Having said the above, I think Cherry Me is the best out of the 3 tinted colours available in the UK. It imparts the best tint, and will suit every skin tone (in my opinion). Pink Punch is more subtle, but is more of a pastel pink when applied to more pigmented lips. Peach Kiss is even more subtle and in all honestly doesn't leave much colour on the lips at all. They all however are really moisturising, and for that reason, I have one on my dressing table, one in my makeup bag and one in my handbag.

I tried swatching these myself, but the lighting was not great, and it didn't look true to it's colour - so I ventured out, and found some great swatches online:
